The ULM Chapter of The American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to the University of Louisiana-Monroe College of Pharmacy.  As you will soon discover, you have chosen an excellent institution in which to study the field of pharmacy and an exciting and rewarding profession.

The next positive decision you can make for your career in pharmacy and your professional development is to become an active member of the University of Louisiana at Monroe APhA-ASP chapter.  The American Pharmacists Association was established in 1852 and is the umbrella organization for all practice areas of pharmacy.  From community pharmacists to pharmaceutical research scientists, more than 56,000 pharmacists nationwide are members of APhA, and are constantly working to advance our profession in all of its practice areas

By joining a professional organization, you can help ease the transition into pharmacy school.  APhA-ASP will help you meet new people, learn about current issues facing pharmacy practice, participate in career development opportunities, and also aid in personal and professional growth. Your membership in APhA-ASP will bring with it many benefits, including textbook discounts, professional liability insurance, and travel opportunities.  In fact, the APhA 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition will be held in San Diego, CA next March. Active memberships of our chapter will receive travel stipends from ULM that will possibly reduce the cost of attending the meeting by hundreds of dollars per student! Attending APhA events such as this allow students the opportunity to build relationships with other student pharmacists, to gain valuable information about current practice settings, and to voice their opinions on important policy related issues with out Academy.

Through APhA-ASP patient care projects, members are allowed to participate in direct patient care even as first year students.  This allows student pharmacists the opportunity to apply knowledge that is taught in the classroom to real patients, and to gain knowledge early in their pharmacy school careers on how to interact with diverse patient populations.

With more than 28,000 members, APhA-ASP is the largest organization for student pharmacists in the country!  Membership dues are $50 annually. In order to qualify for full membership benefits within the ULM chapter, students must sign up online by October 15th. Do not miss the opportunity to join now!
