legacy, future in health sciences

Jennifer Pham of Monroe is a first-year graduate student in speech-language pathology.

I am a member of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).

I work intermittently at the ULM Activity Center and also help out with my family's construction company.

I am the youngest of three girls. My oldest sister, Loan, would have been 35 years old this year (she passed away when I was 10). My next sister, Toni, is 33 years old.

I plan to work in the medical setting. This past semester, I had the opportunity to observe under a speech therapist at Glenwood Regional Medical Center where I found the hospital setting to be fast paced and stimulating. I also hope to contribute to the speech-language pathology field by helping to improve on our therapy processes.

I have always enjoyed studying at the library, which overlooks the bayou, while watching campus life buzzing about below.

Speech-Language Pathology Professor Dr. Linda Bryan is one of my favorite professors because of her engaging teaching style. She lectures in such a way, aiming to paint a big picture for her students where we will grasp the entire concept. This encourages me to truly apply the material I am learning. From Dr. Bryan, I have learned that it is essential to be passionate about what you do.

My favorite memory of ULM thus far would have to be Graduation Day! I was very proud to graduate with Magna Cum Laude Honors, and there was such a collective sense of accomplishment and joy among all the students on that day.

The classes at ULM are the perfect size, allowing me the opportunity to build great relationships with my professors and fellow classmates.

Both my sisters attended ULM. Loan was a Pre-Med major and Toni graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. Therefore, it was a bit of a legacy that I also attend this university and choose a health sciences major. ULM was also able to provide me with competitive scholarships.

Jennifer's ULMMost people probably would not guess that I have a stubborn personality. I always try to do what I believe to be right, even if that means going against conventional standards.

Great Education, Good Times, Bright Future
